SUMMER TERM TOPIC
Growing and Fairytales
This term we will be celebrating Easter and looking at The Hungry Caterpillar story. We will also be reading lots of fairy tales including Jack and the Beanstalk, the Gingerbread Man.
We will be focusing on the children showing sensitivity to other needs and feelings, which in turn allows them to form very positive relationships. They will recognise and talk about how people show their feelings and recognise when behavior is unacceptable.
.Communication and Language Development
The children will develop the ability to listen and respond whilst involved in another activity. They will follow instructions that involve several actions. Also, we will focus on the children expressing themselves clearly, using past, present and future tenses accurately.
This term we want the children to show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. Also, they will move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. Additionally, in class the children will handle equipment and tools
Literacy- Reading and Writing
In phonics we will continue to progress through the phases. Your child will be read with at least once a week and their book changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In writing the children will use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways, which match their spoken words. As the term progresses the children will be able to write some words which they will spell correctly and other that are phonetically plausible. Handwriting sessions will take place weekly. All children will be able to write their name. The children will be given lots of opportunities throughout the learning environment to write.
Mathematical Development – Numbers and Space, Shape and Measure
In maths the children will count reliably with the numbers 1-20 and place them in order. They will be able to say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Also, they will be able to complete simple addition and subtractions. Using quantities and objects they will solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.
Understanding the world
Children will explore the school surroundings, noticing things which are the same or different to the places that they have been before. We will look at family customs and routines. They will also look closely at the similarities and differences of children throughout the world.
Expressive arts and design
Children will sing songs, make music and dance, experimenting with different ways of changing them. They will safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design and texture, form and function.
