At Willaston, we follow an exciting topic-based approach to the teaching of reading and writing. Staff love choosing high quality and diverse texts which engage and inspire pupils and provide cohesion and a range of challenging skills to their English lessons. Within topic lessons, cross curricular writing explores a wide range of global issues which draw upon children's English knowledge and skills. Our interactive school environment is vocabulary rich and both children and adults are encouraged to take ownership and create a progressive working wall within each class. Children take pride in their work and it is displayed creatively on the classroom walls and in topic books. Pupils will leave Willaston as life-long lovers of reading encouraged by access to a fantastically resourced new library and author visits. Children and parents help to share this vision through their roles as librarians and helpers. Each class routinely updates their class text alongside a book that is shared for pleasure.
