Year 3 visit to Reaseheath College
The children had a wonderful day today at Reaseheath. We spent the morning on the farm learning about where our food comes. We looked a dairy and met the cows and learnt about the milking process. We then went to meet the pigs and made links with our class book 'Charlotte's Web'. We found out all about how pigs are farmed. It was fascinating and we decided which of the pigs we thought looked most like Wilbur! We explored more of the farm, seeing a working farm in action.
After lunch we went to find out more about one of the other main characters in our book - Charlotte. We went to Reaseheath Zoo to learn about spiders! Mrs Leech was a little frightened as spiders and other insects were loose in the lab (I managed to put on a brave face for the children!). The children loved their talk from Tom who told them lots of facts about spiders and let them meet a wolf spider.
Our fantastic guides Nessy and Sam then toured us around the zoo, where we learnt more about the different animals they have there. We compared farm animals to zoo animals and were excited to see animals from south and north america, which we have been studying.
It was a busy and very informative day, the children's behaviour was excellent. I was very proud of them and the questions they were asking were so thoughtful and inquisitive. We are such a nature loving class and we would like to say a big thank you to the staff at Reaseheath College for such a wonderful day.
