English : our class text for the first half term is The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.
We will explore the true meaning of the book whilst honing our skills using predictions, persuasive writing, instructions, labelling, invitations and using poetry.
The text fits in superbly with our topic for this term; under the ocean. We will use this topic to fit in with our whole school approach linking Global Learning to our day to day life.
We will then move on to explore traditional and fairy tales, both from our and other cultures, and information texts linking to capital cities.
Maths: in maths we will continue to look at multiplication and division, before learning about fractions. We then return to place value and four operations in number work, before switching to measurement and learning about money, and weight and volume.
Science: in science we will be designing our own boats using a variety of materials, to see which ones are the most suitable. We will also be investigating animal groups and plants.
Art: we will be using repeating or overlapping shapes to make beautiful pictures, and mixing materials to create texture whlle incorporating print from the environment to mimic our under the ocean display.
Design and Technology: food glorious food! We will be understanding where food comes from, eating it, and making tasty dishes from it, yum yum!
Computing: linking with English we will be designing our own party invitations; learning how to send emails, and how to type on a keyboard on our brand new laptops!
History: looking at shipwrecks, submarines, and significant people through history such as Christopher Columbus.
Geography: Looking at capital cities, using globes, maps and atlases, and of course - the oceans.
