SPRING TERM TOPIC
This term we will be learning all about Pirates. The children will be able to go in our very own pirate ship. We will be doing lots of Pirate art work and writing.
Personal Social and Emotional Development
We will be focusing on the children trying lots of different activities and giving reasons for their preferences. Also, we want them to be confident enough to speak in a familiar group and choose resources independently. Whilst playing with friends we want them to take into account other children’s ideas.
.Communication and Language Development
The children will begin to listen attentively in a range of situations and be able to follow stories without pictures. They will extend their vocabulary and make links, sticking to a main theme. They will listen to stories accurately and anticipate key events and outcomes.
This term the children will have PE sessions with Premier Sports. We want the children to travel with confidence and skill, around, under and over balancing and climbing equipment. They will show some understanding with regards to eating, sleeping and hygiene and how it contributes to good health.
Literacy- Reading and Writing
In phonics we will continue with phase 3 building on segmenting and blending CV and CVC words. We will continue to introduce tricky words and children will begin to take reading books home.
We will focus upon the children giving meaning to the marks that they make. Formal handwriting sessions will take place weekly. All children will be able to write their name. The children will be given lots of opportunities throughout the learning environment to write.
Mathematical Development – Numbers and Space, Shape and Measure
In maths the children will count objects, select matching numerals and recite numbers to at least 20. We will look at addition and subtraction. They will focus on measurement such as height, length and weight.
Understanding the world
Children will explore the school surroundings, noticing things which are the same or different to the places that they have been before. We will look at family customs and routines. Look closely at similarities and differences. We will celebrate Chinese new year.
Expressive arts and design
Children will add to their repertoire of songs and explore different sounds. They will explore what happens when colours are mixed together.
