Our Rainforest Topic Day
When the children entered the classroom, dressed for the heat, they collected their boarding passes and made themselves comfortable on the airplane. Air Stewards Huxley and Edmondson ensured the children had a smooth flight.
On arrival, the heat hit us and we immersed ourselves into the geography of the area; going on a sensory trip deep into the rainforest. Afterwards, the children enjoyed a guided tour and researched the rainforest to produce a fact file and learnt how to draw an emerald boa.
The highlight of the day was finding out the importance of food production, and discovering the range of food produced in the tropics. We tasted many different foods- some we liked and some we didn’t.
To finish off we learnt about the tropical storms which drench the area daily and used our bodies to recreate the sound of one such storm. The children were fully engaged and had an informative day which kick-started this fantastic topic.
