Reading for Pleasure in Y5
We love to read in Year Five.
Our book for the spring term is:
Crater Lake by Jennifer Killick
Welcome to Crater Lake: the Year Six school trip from hell! Maybe it's the bloodstained man who tries to stop the coach, maybe it's the absence of welcoming staff, but something is definitely not right at Crater Lake activity centre. Then, at night, things get much, much stranger ... but no matter what happens, don't - ever - fall asleep!
Our first book this term is:
The Day I Fell Into a Fairytale by Ben Miller
The smash hit classic adventure from local boy and past student
Lana loves stories. Especially the ones she and her brother, Harrison, share in their make-believe games. But when Harrison decides he’s too grown-up to play with Lana she finds herself feeling lonely. Until something magical happens . .
During the Autumn term will also read this fabulous adventure set in India:
Asha and the Spirit Bird by Jasbinder Bilan
Highly evocative of rural India and the spiritual traditions and beliefs of the region, Asha and the Spirit Bird sends a determined young girl on a Himalayan adventure, with only her best friend and the spirit animal of her grandmother for company.
This half term PE will be on a Monday and a Friday. Please remember to wear your full named kit to school. Just a reminder that your child should wear navy or black plain bottoms please and plain navy hoodie or school jumper/cardigan.
YEAR 5 HOMEWORK
Reading
Regular reading is vital to becoming a lifelong learner. Read at least 4 times per week with your child and complete an Accelerated reading quiz when you finish a book.
Home work tasks
We will alternate between maths.co.uk and spag.com for our homework tasks.
SpellingShed
We will be setting our spelling homework on Spelling Shed so there will be lots of fun games to play every week to help consolidate learning. A copy of the term's spellings will be sent home during the first week.
Sumdog
The children have been given Log-in information to access Sumdog.com at home and school.
This resource is lots of fun and will help to improve the children's mathematical knowledge and improve rapid recall of their times tables.
Homework Grid
Don't forget to complete homework from your topic grid. Don't forget to photograph and upload onto SeeSaw.
BBC Supermovers
We will be using BBC Supermovers to help us learn and consolidate our knowledge of times tables. The children will have lots of fun practising their tables along with perfecting some interesting moves....!
There are other programmes to use on this website which relate purely to KS2, English, Mathematics, PSHE too.
