basketball success

On Monday 15TH March 6 Year 6 children took part in the finals of the Crewe and Nantwich Partnership Basketball competition, which they had qualified for in November when they won the Nantwich section.  There were 6 teams in total at the finals; the first and second placed teams from the Nantwich, Crewe and Shavington areas.

All our players displayed great maturity in supporting one another and showed a strong sense of sportsmanship throughout the evening - they were amazing ambassadors for Willaston Primary Academy and made me (and their parents) very proud.

The competition was run on a round robin basis where each team play every other team and points are awarded depending on a win, draw or loss.  All the games were very close and at times there was only 1 or 2 points between the teams.  Our Willaston squad drew 4 games and won their final game 2-0.  Their defensive skills were amazing and they took full advantage of their speed and tactical knowledge when they were on the attack.

We were thrilled to come joint 2nd in the competition, a little frustrated to not be moving on to the county finals, but I'm not sure my nerves could cope with that!  The whole team should be so so proud of themselves for being fantastic, fair and using every ounce of energy they had.  A huge well done to them from me and everybody at Willaston Primary Academy.
